APN is a crucial setting in any mobile device that allows it to connect to a particular network or send an MMS. If you’re using a new device or a SIM card for the first time, you need to adjust the APN. Google Fi is a US wireless provider offering wireless connectivity under T-Mobile.

However, you must obtain Google Fi APN settings to enjoy nationwide coverage. Moreover, you can configure APN settings on a new device designed for Google Fi or choose to bring your own phone. You must activate APN settings and use Google Fi in the US to use internet services. Below is everything you need to know:

How to Configure Your Google Fi APN settings?

Google Fi APN settings are required to establish a connection between the Google Fi wireless network and the Internet. To set up APN on your device, ensure you have your SIM card and a compatible device ready.

The following is information for Google Fi APN settings for Android and iOS devices.

For Android:

Navigate to the Settings app on your device. Then, tap Network & Internet. Next, proceed to Mobile network, Advanced, and finally Access Point Names. Click (+) Add New APN.

Please enter the following values precisely as they appear and click Save.

iOS APN:

APN settings on the iPhone are tricky to amend because Apple blocks full access to the settings unless you hack the device. The Google Fi APN settings are automatically configured in iOS 15 and iPad OS 15 and later.

You can confirm the APN settings in one of the below:

Go to Settings > Mobile Data > Google Fi SIM > Mobile Data Network

Or, Settings > Cellular > Google Fi SIM > Cellular Network

In this case, you can either click on default mode to reset settings or manually edit them. If you have to edit APNs on your iOS device, note that anytime you update iOS, Apple resets the APN settings back to the original state before you amend them to your custom APN. Thus, you must edit them again after every iOS update.

However, to configure your Google Fi APN settings manually for iOS devices, you can input the following details:

How To Activate Service on Google Fi?

Step 1: Android Activation

To activate your Google Fi on Android, charge your device fully or keep it plugged in until you complete the set-up.

Step2: Sign In to the Google App

Connect your new device to a Wi-Fi network for the sign-in process. If you’re a new Google Fi customer, register for Google Fi. You can download the Google Fi app from fi.google.com/app and sign in. If you downloaded the Google Fi app, ensure you have the latest version.

Step3: Activate your SIM.

Android users do not need to scan the QR code to activate; this is only for iPhone users.

You can use an eSIM or get a physical SIM card when activating your device. When you sign up, you can order a SIM card for free or purchase one at a retail store. After getting the SIM card from your current device, insert it into a new device.

To complete your set-up, follow the prompts on the Google app. When you activate Google Fi, you can port in your number to Google Fi. If you want a new number, you can get one when you activate it. Proceed to the ‘home’ of the Google Fi website or app to find your number.

Step4: Restart your phone.

You can obtain a request to install an update on your device. After installing the update and restarting, return to the app to continue the set-up.

Activation in iPhone

Start activation for your iOS device on the Google Fi app. Download the app and click on it to open it. The Google Fi app will carry out the device and compatibility checks.

Step1: Start your eSIM activation.

Users with iPhone XS or newer versions must download an eSIM to set up the service. On your iPhone, tether to a Wi-Fi network and sign in to a Google Account attached with the phone number you want to use.

Follow the in-app instructions to activate your phone number and download an eSIM on your iPhone. Then, return to the Google Fi app to set up your connectivity.

Step2: Update Your Google Fi network settings.

On the device you want to activate, open the Settings app and enter the APN setting as described above.

Step3: Start your pSIM activation.

For users with older iPhones that are eSIM-incompatible, to activate service, you must order a physical SIM card. Insert the physical SIM into your iPhone and download the Google Fi app.

Follow the in-app prompts to activate your phone number and the Google Fi service on your physical SIM. Ensure you complete all instructions in the app to set up your connectivity in the Google Fi app.

How Do I Set up a New Device for Google Fi

Most recently manufactured and popular phones work with Google Fi. Only unlocked smartphones are compatible with Google Fi. If you buy your mobile phone from Google Fi or the Google Store, your device comes unlocked. For BYOP, you need to configure APN settings.

If you doubt if your device is unlocked, contact your current carrier or the outlet where you purchased your cell phone. Ensure you don’t have any pending payments on your device. If your device is locked, your provider may have other requirements to unlock it.

Can I Transfer My Number to Google Fi

When switching to Google Fi, you can keep your phone numbers for landline, mobile, and Google Voice. The transfer of Google Fi mobile numbers and numbers from Google Voice occurs within the first 3 hours.

On the other hand, landline transfer takes two business days. You start the process when you sign up for Google Fi. It’s important to stay active with your current phone service before you finish the number transfer to Fi.  However, you can still utilize your old wireless provider until your transfer is completed.
